Mt. Hemmaberg - Ad Fontes

On the Mt. Hemmaberg you can visit the remnants of an impressive ancient sanctuary with excavations of 5 churches, a hospice and housing buildings. There is a 4 km long road from Globasnitz to Mt. Hemmaberg. Sporty visitors may enjoy a bicycle ride onto the mountain, from where you have a spectacular view over the Jauntal valley. At the old churches you will find a trait which leads to the grotto “Rosaliengrotte” which is on the Northern side underneath the summit. A chapel was built in 1860 and refurbished in 1927 accommodates the statue of St. Rosalia, patron saint against pestilence.

Search for springs. On some days the spring underneath the chapel is pretty crowded, because it is said that the water has healing powers due to right-polarizing earth radiation. You may also want to walk along the meditation trail - Ad Fontes / Quellen suchen / K izvirom. Its nine stations have been created by the famous Carinthian artist Valentin Oman. You may find inner and outer sources of strength on this trail.
