Lake Maltschacher See

The Lake Maltschacher See with a surface of approx. 13 hectares, surrounded by slopes of rather flat hills, is situated Southeast of Feldkirchen in Central Carinthia. The lake is of ice-age origin; the Western side of the lake merges into a moor. Its maximum depth is 6.7 m. There are 15 different fish species in Lake Maltschacher See. The main fish species are yellow perch, white bream and bleak. Carp, tench, sturgeons and pikeperch were introduced into the lake in an extensive stocking program. The fish of Lake Maltschacher See grow rather slow. The reduction of the number of Chinese carp had a very positive effect for aquatic plants which also improved the overall number of fish.
