Savinja River

The Savinja river with its relatively strong decline, numerous graound sills and pools is an excellent place for trout-fanatics and a true challenge for every fly fisherman. The Savinja has an average widths of 10-15 m and a middle depth of 0,5-0,8 m already in its upper part, where the river runs through the romantic Logar valley, soon after its spring. The bottom of the river is usually stony and spread with large rocks, where the fish find perfect shelters. Other parts of the Savinja have a typical white gravel bottom. The river is managed by the fishing club Ljubno and is divided into three sections.

Description

Fish species: Huchen, brown trout, grayling and rainbow trout
Fishing season: April 15th - October 31st
Regulation: Fly fishing only with dry fly, nymph and streamer without barbs
From April 15th - May 31st only streamers longer than 5 cm are allowed
Fishing from bridges is forbidden
All huchen and brown trout must be released throughout the whole season

Fly Fishing Savinja - Catch and Release-Section

The "catch and release"-section of the Savinja is a “Trophy-Section”. Here you find wonderful existence grayling, brook- and rainbow trout in top condition. Fly fishing for Huchen in the winter is here worth a try too!

Fly Fishing Savinja – Section 3

In this section fish from the trout family dominate, however fish from the carp family are abundant too. The section is rich in grayling, brook- and rainbow trout. The conditions for fly fish are excellent. In the wintertime you can also hunt for Huchen.

Fly Fishing Savinja – Section 2

The river connects the three municipalities highest in altitude in the upper Savinja Valley - Solčava, Luče and Ljubno. Section 2 starts in Luče and ends at the beginning of the village of Ljubno. The fly fisher will find a beautiful ubandance of grayling and brown trout. The fishing conditions are excellent.

Fly Fishing Savinja – Section 1

The river connects the three municipalities highest in altitude in the upper Savinja Valley - Solčava, Luče and Ljubno. Section 1 begins in the Logar Valley and ends at the confluence with the Lučnica river in Luče. Here the fly fisher will find a rich abundance of brown trout. The avid fisherman will find wilderness fly fishing as pure as can be!
