Soča River

The Soča river (Italian: Isonzo) probably belongs to the most beautiful and most diverse rivers in Central Europe. It is called “the emerald river” because of its gin-blue colour. The river offers world-class fly fishing with its special character, its structure and above all – its intact and unaffected landscape in an impressive and unforgettable environment. This fly fishing paradise is being managed by the Tolmin fishing association. The section starts in Bovec and include several feeder creeks. The Soča between Bovec and Kobarid is characterized by many canyons and some very deep pools, home of the shy Soča-trout (Marmorata).
From Kobarid to Tolmin, the river changes into a hold-up and becomes 20 to 30 m wide and about 1 to 1.5 m deep and in some places even deeper. There are many sand and gravel bars along the entire section which makes it comfortably accessible.
