Trögerner Klamm Gorge · Ebriachbach Creek

In the Southernmost part of Carinthia next to climatic spa centre Bad Eisenkappel you find the Vellachtal valley with its side valleys Ebriach and Trögern, an area of untouched nature. The sections of the mountain creeks Trögern and Ebriachbach are feeder creeks to the Vellach river. Both creeks are a challenge for the fly fisherman and an unforgettable nature experience.

The character is typical for mountain creeks. Sometimes it is necessary to climb rocks down to the stream and to present the fly with greatest caution. But don´t shy away from climbing – you will experience top of the line mountain fly fishing!

In spring and autumn fishing is successful all day long while in the summertime the chances are best early in the morning or in the late evening hours.

Fly Fishing Section Trögener Klamm Gorge (Section 2)

The section has an overall-length of 2,5km (Trögern) and offers a fishery which devoted fly fishers will consider unforgettable. The Trögernerbach creek with a width between 3m and 6m is definitely the most challenging fishing possibility of the Bad Eisenkappel area. The creek winds through a narrow gorge in the nature reserve "Trögerner Klamm". The average width of the Ebriach creek is between 8m and 10m, the Vellach is between 10m and 12m wide and these two waters are more like a meadow brook in character. In the stretches and the pools, among which some are very deep, you will find brown trout, rainbow trout as well as some grayling in the lower Vellach.
Permitted lures: Barbless dry flies and nymphs.

The section starts at the last parking lot before the Trögerner Klamm gorge and ends at the bridge approx. 150m below the restaurant "Franzl".
Since the Trögerner Klamm gorge is a nature reserve, all fish from the Trögernerbach creek must be released immediately!

Recommended access-points: beginning upstream
1. Beginning of section. From the last parking lot before the Trögerner Klamm gorge stone stairs lead directly to the creek.
2. Next to the first bridge approx. 700m after the last parking lot, a trail which is a little tricky, leads to the creek.
3. At the public restrooms or approx. 200m farther at the resting bench.
4. At the end of the section beside the bridge.

INFORMATION

Beginning and end of every section are marked by signs!

With a 3-day fishing licence you may fish in all sections of the Vellach river as well as both sections of the "Kleine Drau" side stream, which means fly fishing on an overall length of 34 kilometres!
